Spider-Man Still Happening in 2017

According to Ryan Penagos, VP and executive editor of Marvel Digital MediaInsomniac GamesPlayStation 4-exclusive Spider-Man title is still going to be released in 2017

Penagos was talking about Marvel’s recent video game output during a livestream and said “there’s even more on the horizon for 2017 like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC.” Insomniac’s Spider-Man title was announced during E3 2016 but as of yet Insomniac, Sony, and Marvel have not officially announced a release date for the game.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have partnered for Spider-Man: Homecoming, a new movie which is set to hit cinemas in July. Insomniac’s game isn’t tied into this movie, but would no doubt benefit from being released this year. However, as previously stated, an official release date has not yet been specified for the game. Spider-Man the game casts players as the iconic web-slinger in a completely original story. It takes place at a time when Peter Parker is “experienced” and “more masterful at fighting crime” in New York.

“From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before,” reads a line from the game’s description. Spider-Man, which is a working title for the PlayStation 4 game, is the first licensed game Insomniac has ever made. It is known most for the Ratchet and Clank series.

Are you still looking forward to the Spider-Man game?

Is It Time For A New Wolverine Game?

With the release of Logan last Friday, it’s not hard to think of the other Wolverine movies like The Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins. Although Origins was a complete bomb among fans and critics alike, there was one good thing to come out of the terrible film.

Back in 2009, Activision with the Wolverine: Origins video game that was loosely based on the film. The game did relativity well and generated a positive buzz with fans of the movie (all 7 of them) and gamers alike. It went through Logan’s past experiences from his Team X missions up until before he was found by Professor Xavier and the X-Men.

Throughout the game, you learn more of the back story of the man, the mutant, the legend. Fighting enemies like Wendigo, Omega Red, Deadpool, The Blob and other Marvel foes of Logan that he has been fighting for years in the comics. It’s a button mashing, hack and slash fan boy’s dream game that comes with the blood and gore everyone loves.

It’s been eight years since that came out and the lack of X-Men games since then is a bit off putting. Sure, video games haven’t really been Marvel’s cream of the crop, but if there was any time to strike with a new Wolverine game, the time is now, my friends.

The hype from the new movie is real and has weight behind it for being the last portrayal of the character performed by Hugh Jackman as well as the last time (we think) we see Patrick Stewart as the beloved Charles Xavier. There have been talks of both characters making one last appearance as their characters in Deadpool 2, but as of right now, it’s only a rumor.

Now I’m not saying that you only have to play as old man Logan for the entirety of the whole game, but similar to the Origins game, flash back to iconic comic battles with Sabertooth, HulkLady Deathstrike, Magneto, Bloodscream, ect. Those are some very intense and action packed stories I feel the fans of the character would love to see and be a part of as they take control of the berserker.

I know it’s a long shot with Marvel focusing on their new  Avengers Project, but a man could dream.

Square Enix Partners With Marvel For “Avengers Project”

Last night on Marvel’s official Facebook account, they told us to tune in this morning for a big announcement. While some thought we were getting a look at upcoming films like Thor: Ragnarok or the Infinity Wars, which just started production, no one knew what was for sure coming.

In a teaser trailer posted at 10 this morning, it looks as though that Marvel is teaming up with Square EnixCrystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal to create a series of games that they have dubbed “The Avengers Project.” These are some of the best companies in the world at what they do for video games. The resurgence of the Tomb Raider series was because of Crystal Dynamics and Dues Ex was Edios’ brainchild and both have been very well acclaimed for their visuals and their stories.

There’s no window for when this “Avengers project” is set to launch, but we’d guess it’s planned for 2018 or 2019 when the next two Avengers films (“Infinity War” and an untitled sequel) are scheduled to debut. Check out the trailer below!
