Didn’t get to preorder a Nintendo Switch at GameStop in January? Well next week is your chance to finally get your hands on one.
The retailer announced today that they will have systems in stock next week, thanks to an “additional allotment” of consoles. Those Switch units will be available to buy in GameStop stores “as early as Wednesday, March 22,” the company said in a news release.
“GameStop continues to see strong demand from customers who are looking to purchase the Nintendo Switch system,” said Eric Bright, GameStop’s senior director of merchandising. “We are meeting this demand by securing additional systems as fast as we can.”
Switch sales are exceeding Nintendo’s expectations. The company originally said it planned to ship 2 million units worldwide this month and 8 million more during its next fiscal year, which begins April 1. Now Nintendo is reportedly increasing production to meet the high demand, and will be producing 16 million units for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
A GameStop representative told Polygon that at this point, the company will only be selling the additional Switch units in physical stores, not online. However, GameStop will sell games, accessories and bundles on its website. The spokesperson added, “GameStop recommends that customers should call their nearest store location for availability details.”
