It looks like some Overwatch faithful on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 think that the use of the keyboard and mouse on the consoles is a big no no.
The multiplayer shooter phenomenons fan base on the respective consoles have claimed that since high-level players of the game on consoles use a keyboard and mouse, with a majority of players using a controller, it could be seen as cheating due to the precision increase by a mouse compared to an analog stick.
Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan stated that the company “objects to the use of mouse and keyboard on console” on the official Overwatch forums.
“We have lobbied and will continue to lobby for first-party console manufacturers to either disallow mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices or openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for players.”
The PS4 supports the keyboard for using the internet browser games such as Final Fantasy XIV while Microsoft has pushed convergence of its console with Windows 10 with the Play Anywhere program, it seems unlikely for either platform holder to comply despite Overwatch being a massive draw on consoles.
While Blizzard hasn’t traditionally supported the notion of a cross platform multiplayer in the past, maybe they should think about taking a page out titles like Rocket League‘s book and at least toy with the idea.
Do you use a controller when you play? Is using a keyboard and mouse unfair to other players?
